Originally from London, Si Butler started playing classical guitar at the age of 9 and played in blues/rock/pop bands during high school until college where he attended Manchester University studying Electrical Engineering by day and jazz privately by night. After university he juggled an engineering and jazz career performing regularly in the vibrant Manchester Jazz scene for 3 years until he decided to focus on music exclusively and attended Leeds College of Music, studying with Adrian Ingram and Mike Walker. Since moving to San Francisco in 1995 Si has played and recorded with many of the Bay Areas best jazz musicians including Smith Dobson, Jeff Chambers, Jim Zimmerman, Gary Brown and top Brazilian musicians such as Marcos Silva, Weber Iago and Celso Alberti. Si teaches privately and for the National Guitar Workshop where he teaches the Jazz Guitar course at the San Francisco and Los Angeles campuses. |
